The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) verifies the safety of PET, as a food contact material, when it comes from the Poly Recycling process.

The Poly Recycling process essentially involves dried and washed PET flakes that have already been used, which are sterilized through heat in the reactor.

EFSA has assessed the risk to human health, through PET materials and processing that come into contact with food, after the Poly Recycling process.

After evaluating the materials and this process, not only is it not a health hazard, but the possibility of micro-organisms being present after the material has been sterilized has also been ruled out.

Finally, EFSA suggests verifying that in order to recycle the material that will come into contact with food, according to EU legislation, it must come from at least 95% PET applications that come from food.
